Phil Mickelson claimed his 43rd PGA Tour victory this past week at the WGC-Mexico Championship, and his first since The Open in 2013. What does this mean for the game of golf? Well first, it shows that Phil himself is going nowhere and is confident that he will reach 50 career wins. Especially with his confident play as of late, racking up 4 tops 10’s in his last 4 starts, he has catapulted to one of the favorites for the upcoming Masters in a few weeks (20-1 according to VegasInsider.com).
Q: You’re now seven wins away from getting 50 PGA Tour wins. Do you think …?
Phil cutting in: No, I will. I’ll get there.

While Phil is a fan favorite wherever he goes, there is one other guy who has stolen the spotlight as of late, and that is Eldrick “Tiger” Woods. As he has his entire career, Woods has captivated the golf world since his return from his 4th back surgery, and not only looks healthy as ever, but seems to be coming into form at the right time. Coming off a 12th place finish in his last start at The Honda Classic, it looks like the Tiger of old is still alive and I for one cannot wait for the next few weeks. With starts at The Valspar and The Arnold Palmer Invitational leading up to the Masters, this is a better time than any for Tiger to show the world that he is back for real. Phil proved last week that age is just a number, and if you still got it,there is no reason both Phil and Tiger can still have success against these young guns on Tour.

Tiger has ALWAYS overshadowed Phil throughout his career, and with all the buzz around Phil after his victory it would be Vintage Tiger to overshadow him once again with a win in the one of his next few starts. While you may have thought the final round of the WGC-Mexico was captivating with Phil and JT going to a playoff, it’s indescribable how the world would react to a final round with Tiger in the mix. Godforbid if we get Tiger in the final group on Sunday at Augusta the internet might just damn near explode.
The game of golf could not be in a better place than it is right now, and the 2018 season has the potential to be one of the greatest years of golf this game has ever seen.
